History

Asheville Eye Associates started in 1961 when Edward K. Isbey, Jr., M.D., began practice as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. Dr. Isbey, Jr., and
Thomas L. Beardsley, M.D. merged in 1987 to form a group practice. Asheville Eye Associates has since grown to 14 doctors who provide compassionate and expert care for a broad range of primary and complex eye conditions. Our most recent expansion includes the opening of the Asheville Eye Surgery Center, the only outpatient surgery center in Western North Carolina devoted exclusively to eye surgery. Also, in April 2005, Asheville Eye Associates merged with Western Carolina Retinal Associates, the region’s largest provider of specialty retinal and vitreous care.
