History

Asheville Eye Associates has been serving Western North Carolina since 1961 when Edward K. Isbey, Jr., M.D. began practice as a comprehensive ophthalmologist.  In 1986, Dr. Isbey, Jr., and Thomas L. Beardsley, M.D. merged to form Asheville Eye Associates.  Today, Asheville Eye Associates is the largest and most comprehensive provider of specialty eye care in Western North Carolina and includes 17 eye care providers.  In 2004, Asheville Eye Associates opened the Asheville Eye Surgery Center, the only outpatient surgery center in Western North Carolina devoted exclusively to eye surgery.  In April 2005, Asheville Eye Associates merged with Western Carolina Retinal Associates, the region’s largest provider of specialty retinal and vitreous care.  In July 2009 Asheville Eye Associates opened its new Hendersonville, NC office, which offers a full range of state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care including advanced cataract surgery(including Multi-Focal lens technology), LASIK, treatment for glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, eyelid surgery and pediatric eye care.  In November 2009, Asheville Eye Associates opened its new Franklin office, providing comprehensive eye care, treatment for medical and surgical diseases of the eye, laser surgery, advanced No-Stitch cataract surgery(including Multi-Focal lens technology), and treatment for diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and vitreoretinal diseases.
