Dr. Isbey, Jr., specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received his M.D. degree from Wayne State University College of Medicine. His internship was at Harper Hospital and residency in ophthalmology was performed at the Kresge Eye Institute and Detroit Receiving Hospital. He is a Life Fellow and past member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a Consulting Professor of Ophthalmology at Duke University Eye Center, and currently remains as consultant to the Asheville VA Medical Center. He is past president of the American Eye Study Club and the North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He is an Associate Examiner of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Isbey, Jr., has been in practice in Asheville since 1961. He is married and actively grows orchids and enjoys fly-fishing.
